The Canadian Lightning Detection Network (CLDN) helps meteorologists and scientists detect and monitor thunderstorms at an early stage in their development. Eighty-three sensors are set up across the country forming the Canadian portion of a North American network which is the largest of its kind in the world. The CLDN is able to detect more than 100 000 lightning flashes an hour. Within 40 seconds, the sensors determine the stregnth and location of lightning, send the information to Environment Canada's weather centres and then map out the information on a computer screen. 1, record 1, English, - Canadian%20Lightning%20Detection%20Network

Le Réseau canadien de détection de la foudre (RCDF) aide les météorologues et les scientifiques à détecter et suivre les orages dès les premiers stages de leur développement. Quatre-vingt-trois capteurs installés un peu partout sur le territoire constituent la partie canadienne du réseau nord-américain, qui est la plus grande ce ce type au monde. Le réseau canadien peut détecter jusqu'à 100 000 éclairs par heure.
