On July 30, 2007, the governments of Canada, Ontario and Quebec signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the development of an Ontario--Quebec Continental Gateway and Trade Corridor. The goal of the federal-provincial partnership is to maintain and build upon Ontario and Quebec's world-class transportation system so that it remains a key driver of international trade and economic growth for the future.

Le 30 juillet 2007, les gouvernements du Canada, de l'Ontario et du Québec ont signé un Protocole d'entente sur le développement de la Porte continentale et du Corridor de commerce Ontario-Québec. L'objectif du partenariat fédéral-provincial consiste à maintenir et à renforcer le réseau de transport de renommée mondiale de l'Ontario et du Québec afin qu'il demeure un moteur clé du commerce international et de la croissance économique. L'initiative de la Porte continentale est axée sur le développement d'un réseau de transport multimodal durable, sûr et efficace, qui permettra au cœur économique du Canada de demeurer compétitif et de rester un emplacement de choix pour investir ainsi qu'un corridor de commerce majeur.
