The contractualism is not a descriptive theory but a normative one, i.e. it has its focus beyond the description of existing institutions, it tries to discover norms for the accurate acting of society. The contractualism is therefore not descriptive, as it does develop an argument for the justification of the existence of political power as it tries to confine the borders for the exercice of power. 1, record 2, English, - contractualism

La théorie contractualiste vient en deux modèles, celui de Hobbes et celui de Rousseau. C'est l'inspiration rousseauiste qui nourrit la justification contractualiste de l'État développée par John Rawls au cours des deux dernières décennies.
