Nouveau type de stratigraphie, qui essaie de diviser les sections sédimentaires en unités déposées en association avec les cycles orbitaux de Milankovitch. En effet, le Pléistocène peut être subdivisé par les fluctuations du 180 qui expriment la croissance ou la décroissance de la cryosphère en réponse aux cycles de Milankovitch.

OBS

La mise en évidence de la signature stratigraphique de ces cycles, dans les diagraphies électriques (amplitude spectrale de la porosité, à partir de la diagraphie de résistivité) montre que la stratigraphie cyclique peut se développer rapidement.
