Visual-Accumulation-Tube Size Analyser: This method is suitable for simple and rapid analysis of the size frequency distribution of sand samples with particles between 62 microns and 2mm. The instrument operates on the principle of the fall velocity of particles and consists of a glass sedimentation tube, a valve mechanism and a recorder.

Cylindre de décantation. Principe: si on laisse sédimenter une suspension uniforme pendant "t" secondes et qu'ensuite on décante à une profondeur "h" centimètres, le liquide non décanté contient toutes les particules qui ont des vitesses de chute supérieures à "h/t", plus les particules de vitesse inférieure à "h/t" qu'il contenait déjà. (...) L'appareillage est fort simple. Un récipient de un litre environ, de hauteur 12,5cm muni d'un siphon à 25mm du fond, contient la suspension; la fraction qui doit être décantée est soutirée par siphon ou robinet.
