Procédure de recherche avec retour-arrière qui déclenche une règle donnée et lui fait générer toutes les hypothèses vraisemblables en assignant à chacune un poids de plausibilité. À partir de ces poids, on calcule des valeurs delta, représentant la différence entre le poids d'une hypothèse et celui de la meilleure hypothèse concourante. Seule la meilleure hypothèse est retenue et, si elle aboutit à une impasse, le retour-arrière mènera au second choix le plus prometteur globalement.
