Osteoarthritis is a form of non-inflammatory arthritis, which is caused by the breakdown of cartilage, which covers and protects bones. Often due to "wear and tear", pain and swelling can occur when the cartilage breaks down. Eventually, the cartilage may wear away entirely and bones will rub together. 7, record 1, English, - osteoarthritis
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
degenerative joint disease (DJD); degenerative arthritis: [Osteoarthritis] has always been classified as a noninflammatory arthritis; yet, there is increasing evidence for inflammation occurring with cytokine and metalloproteinase release into the joint. Therefore, the terms "degenerative joint disease (DJD)" [and "degenerative arthritis" may] no longer [be] appropriate when referring to [osteoarthritis]. 8, record 1, English, - osteoarthritis

5, record 1, French, - arthrose
