Plante généralement verte; chaumes de 60-120 cm. Floraison estivale. Bois humides et rivages. Générale dans le Québec mais abondante dans le nord-est. Cette espèce ainsi que Cinna arundinacea fournissent un excellent fourrage, mais elles ne sont pas assez abondantes pour avoir quelque importance [famille des Graminées].

Le genre de «cinna» n'a pu être attesté dans les sources consultées.
