La S35 permet l'impression simultanée du code à barres, de sa traduction et de 10 lignes de textes indépendantes (au plus de 63 caractères). La technologie utilisée est dite "à tambour": la totalité des caractères est gravée sur un tambour en rotation continuelle, dès la mise sous tension de l'appareil: c'est par la frappe d'un marteau électromagnétique sur le caractère choisi que ce dernier s'imprime sur une étiquette (un ruban carboné étant placé entre marteau et tambour entraînant un dépôt de particules de carbones homogènes).
