Capital assistance is provided to northern communities to build extended care/long-term care (LTC) facilities with populations not exceeding 5,000. A hospital must be located within town boundaries and no nursing home can exist in the community. The facility can be a free-standing building or an extension of the existing hospital. This facility will enable seniors to live their later years in their home community close to family and friends.

Ce programme est offert dans les collectivités nordiques comptant moins de 5 000 habitants afin de les aider à construire des établissements de soins prolongés/soins de longue durée (SLD). L'hôpital doit être situé dans les limites de la ville, et la collectivité ne doit bénéficier des services d'aucun foyer de soins infirmiers. L'établissement peut être un immeuble isolé ou l'extension d'un hôpital déjà en place. Cet établissement permettra à des aînés de vivre leurs dernières années dans leur collectivité, près de leur famille et de leurs amis.
