On sait fabriquer les molécules images des précédentes; on trouve effectivement toutes les propriétés rigoureusement identiques, y compris la valeur absolue du pouvoir rotatoire. Seul le signe de ce dernier est inverse. Énantiomère (n.m.) - (énantiomorphe, inverse optique, antipode optique). Qualifie les deux formes isomères d'un même composé qui, possédant un carbone asymétrique, sont images l'une de l'autre dans un miroir. Les deux énantiomères font tourner le plan de polarisation de la lumière du même angle mais en sens contraire : l'un est dextrogyre (+) l'autre lévogyre (-).
