Le calendrier épidémiologique pour l'année 2001 commence en fait le 31 décembre 2000. En effet, la première semaine épidémiologique de l'année doit se terminer, par définition, le premier samedi de janvier, à la condition que celui-ci soit précédé d'au moins quatre jours de janvier. En 2001, le samedi 6 janvier remplit ces conditions et doit donc terminer la première semaine épidémiologique.
