Le faciès des schistes bleus ou schistes à glaucophane (Eskola, 1929) se distingue par la présence d'une amphibole sodique, la glaucophane. La présence de lawsonite et/ou de l'association jadéïte + quartz permettent de définir des sous-faciès. La pumpellyite peut exister dans la partie la moins métamorphique de ce faciès. Les micas blancs ne sont pas des muscovites mais des phengites. La biotite et les feldspaths sont exclus.
