[L']anémie à hématie falciforme est une maladie héréditaire due à la présence d'une hémoglobine anormale S dans le globule rouge. Au cours de l'appauvrissement de l'organisme en oxygène, cette hémoglobine S devenue fibreuse durcit dans un certain nombre de globules rouges auxquels elle donne la forme d'une faucille : c'est la falciformation.
