In the National Capital Region (NCR), federal government employees have contributed to annual fundraising campaigns since 1945. From 1990 to 1996, United Way and HealthPartners both participated in the federal campaign to enable donors to support any Canadian registered charity, under the new name "Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign." United Way was given the mandate to manage and staff the campaign on behalf of Treasury Board across Canada.

Dans la région de la capitale nationale (RCN), les employés du gouvernement du Canada participent à la campagne annuelle de souscription depuis 1945. Entre 1990 et 1996, Centraide et PartenaireSanté ont participé ensemble à la campagne fédérale dans certaines collectivités du Canada. En 1997, le Conseil du Trésor a élargi la campagne afin de permettre aux donateurs d'appuyer tout autre organisme de bienfaisance canadien enregistré de leur choix et lui a donné le nom de «Campagne de charité en milieu de travail du gouvernement du Canada». C'est à ce moment-là que Centraide s'est vu confier le mandat de gérer et de doter en personnel la campagne au nom du Conseil du Trésor, à l'échelle du pays.
