Un article avait été précédemment écrit par F. Attneave sur ce même sujet; il s'agit de «In Defense of Homunculi», publié dans Sensory Communication (Cambridge, Mass. : MIT Press, 1960, pp. 777-782), de W. Rosenblith. Pour sa part, William Lycan soutient la cause des homoncules dans «Form, Function, and Feel», paru dans le Journal of Philosophy (vol. 78, (1), 1981, pp. 24-50).
