Figure 15 shows a centrifugal fan installed with the inlet close to a wall without and with a splitter. Without the splitter, the airflows from opposite directions collide and cause turbulence at the fan inlet. With the splitter, the airflows cannot collide and the inlet resistance to the fan is reduced, thus improving fan performance.

Les ventilateurs centrifuges se prêtent bien à un réglage du débit par création d'une rotation préalable de la veine d'air entrant dans la roue au moyen d'un aubage orientable dit "inclineur"; [...] Il faut remarquer qu'un tel dispositif de réglage, qui n'est qu'une application de la théorie générale des turbomachines s'applique également aux ventilateurs hélicoïdes.

Inclineurs à l'aspiration. Il s'agit d'un jeu de pales directrices orientables placées devant l'ouïe d'aspiration et communiquant à l'air une prérotation de même sens (diminution de pression) ou de sens contraire (augmentation de pression) au sens de rotation de la roue du ventilateur. Applicable aux hélicoïdes aussi bien qu'aux centrifuges ce dispositif présente sur le registre l'avantage de mieux proportionner la puissance absorbée au débit, mais est évidemment plus compliqué.

In the case of centrifugal blowers, the variation of efficiency at part loads is very important. These machines can now be equipped with tilting devices at the impeller intake, and these make it possible to maintain almost 80% efficiency or load variation ranges of 30 to 100%.
