En anglais, splice a un sens générique et un sens particulier. Le premier désigne [le résultat de] la jonction de deux conducteurs par entrelacement : c'est [l'] épissure. Il est probable qu'à l'origine toutes les jonctions se faisaient par entrelacement, ce qui expliquerait le dédoublement du sens de splice avec l'évolution de la réalité technique. En français, par contre, épissure a gardé son sens précis; lorsqu'un joint est exécuté au moyen d'une pièce appelée raccord (à compression, à braser, à sertir, etc.), ce qui est maintenant le cas le plus répandu, il ne convient guère de parler d'épissure. 1, record 18, French, - joint
