An instrument designed to detect vibrations passing through the earth's crust. It is used in conjunction with seismography.

OBS

Although the term "seismograph" is sometimes substituted for "geophone" in the literature, the terms are not synonymous: the geophone detects ground motion and sends electrical impulses to a recording device within the seismograph system of which it is a part. The geophone differs from the seismometer in that it functions electromagnetically while the seismometer is usually an electromechanical device.

A larger fingertip hold becomes a true handhold - for the entire hand - ... such holds are nicknamed "jug handles" or, when appearing at the end of a hairy lead, "Thank God holds."

OBS

Although one finds "bucket" defined as a large handhold and used as a synonym for "jug handle", it is also used to name a large foothold. Some sources define "bucket" as a large hold, thus making the concept for "bucket" broader than "jug handle."
