The precise site or origin of so-called junctional tachycardia has not yet been determined. Presumably, it may arise from any of the tissues within the area surrounding the AV node. Occasionally, this arrhythmia occurs in healthy patients, but the vast majority are associated with an acute myocardial infarction, digitalis toxicity, acute myocarditis (acute rheumatic carditis), post cardiac surgery, electrolyte imbalance, or metabolic disturbances.

Les tachycardies de la jonction auriculoventriculaire (jonctionnelles) sont le plus souvent paroxystiques et à rechutes, leur mécanisme est une réentrée (rythme réciproque) intranodale ou utilisant une voie accessoire et il n'y a pas, en règle, de cardiopathie associée [...] Les autres variétés de tachycardies jonctionnelles, rares, en diffèrent par leur évolution (tachycardies chroniques) ou l'intervention d'un facteur étiologique (tachycardies secondaires) ou leur mécanisme (tachycardies d'origine focale).

Transformation d'une tachycardie jonctionnelle en fibrillation auriculaire - En cours de crise, la tachycardie par réentrée jonctionnelle peut se transformer spontanément en fibrillation auriculaire chez des patients ayant un syndrome de Wolff-Parkinson-White.
