Kohs Block Design Tests are performance tests that are very similar to the Block Design subtest in well-known comprehensive intelligence scales. Instructions are designed to be given in pantomime. The test consists of 16 colored cubes and 17 cards with colored designs that the subject is to duplicate. Dans sa forme originale il comprend 16 cubes colorés avec lesquels on doit reproduire 35 dessins de difficulté graduée. Dès 1923 Kohs ramène la série à 17 dessins devenus classiques. La cotation tient compte du sujet au cours de la manipulation des cubes. Il permet en effet de mesurer l'expression analytique et synthétique de la pensée conceptuelle jusqu'en ses niveaux les plus élevés, tout en mettant en jeu l'aptitude à la structuration spatiale. Les résultats aux Cubes de Kohs sont relativement peu affectés par les facteurs culturels, scolaires en particulier.
