A variety of sulphate pulp of high mechanical strength used especially for the manufacture of kraft papers.

OBS

1) In the strict technical sense of the term "kraft pulp" is more restrictive than "sulphate pulp", and in some countries this distinction is also maintained commercially. In many countries, however, the two terms are regarded as synonyms commercially, the term "kraft pulp" being preferred in order to avoid confusion with "sulphite". 2) The danger of confusion between the terms "sulphite" and "sulphate" does not exist in French.

1) Dans un sens strictement technique, le terme [pâte kraft] est plus restrictif que [pâte au sulfate] et, dans certains pays, cette distinction est également maintenue dans un sens commercial.

[En France] La pâte écrue au sulfate est brune, mais elle peut être blanchie. (...) Aussi, est-elle désignée sous le nom de pâte kraft (...) quand elle est fabriquée à partir de résineux. Lorsqu'elle est à base de feuillus, elles n'a plus commercialement le droit de porter ce nom: on l'appelle pâte au sulfate, ou plus communément pâte à la soude.

"Pâte kraft" a été normalisé par l'ISO et l'AFNOR.
