The name given to the unofficial league formed by the teams of the National League and the American League who train in Arizona and in southwestern United States during the Canadian winter and in the spring, and play exhibition games against each other.

OBS

Was written "cactus league" before being more official, with spectators attending both the training sessions and the games. The expression "winter league" is a generic for both the Grapefruit League and the Cactus League; in the baseball world, both names are synonyms of "spring training". The custom of training in the South before the regular season originated in Florida in 1870.
