"Liquid Plugs" of sewage, separated by air gaps, enter the system at a pre-determined ratio of atmospheric air to waste, and are propelled through the vacuum mains at a high velocity to a central vacuum station. Due to friction and gravity the "liquid plugs" will tend to break down and to reform these plugs, transport pockets are installed several hundred feet apart.
