La libération massive d'entomophages efficaces, dite «augmentation» en anglais, est applicable à des organismes entomophages qui sont déjà présents dans le milieu, mais qui sont trop peu abondants pour réprimer le ravageur, ou dont les périodes d'abondance sont incompatibles avec la répression du ravageur attendue. Elle consiste à multiplier artificiellement un entomophage reconnu comme efficace et à le libérer massivement dans la population à réprimer au moment le plus opportun, soit de façon ponctuelle ou de façon sporadique, au besoin (Rabb et al., 1976; Ridgway et Vinson, 1977).
