Les pneumonies méningococciques, classiques avant l'ère des antibiotiques, sont devenues rares. Il s'agit de pneumonies franches, lobaires, aiguës ou d'installation progressive. Les sérogroupes Y et W135 seraient plus souvent en cause.

OBS

Ces pneumonies sont généralement primitives et s'observent en dehors de toute MCSm ou septicémie à méningocoque. Leur preuve bactériologique ne peut être obtenue que par des prélèvements protégés : ponction transtrachéale ou fibro-aspiration bronchiques, car les hémocultures sont généralement négatives.
