In 1986. Agreement between the Cree and the JBNQA (James Bay Northern Quebec Agreement). As compensation, the Cree and Inuit nations received $225 million under the JBNQA, and the Naskapi nation received $9 million under the NEQA (Northeastern Quebec Agreement). They are also entitled to a range of services and programs to which the federal and provincial governments contribute annually.
