In the mercury cell the cathode is metallic mercury to which current is led by the steel body of the cell or other metallic contacts. Sodium amalgam is produced in the cell. It is led away from the cell to a decomposer also containing graphite which, in this case, serves as a cathode. The amalgam serves as an anode in a short-circuited cell. 2, record 1, English, - mercury%20cell

2, record 1, French, - cellule%20%C3%A0%20mercure

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 DEF
A primary electric cell which, apart from more conventional uses, has a variety of interesting applications such as power sources for hearing aids and heart pacemakers. It has the advantage over the dry Leclanché cell in that it does not deteriorate, provides a constant emf over a long period of time and has a higher energy density. It consists of zinc and mercuric oxide electrodes in contact with a hydroxide/zinc oxide electrolyte. 4, record 2, English, - mercury%20cell
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 DEF
A primary dry cell that delivers an essentially constant output voltage throughout its useful life by means of a chemical reaction between zinc and mercury oxide widely used in hearing aids. Also known as mercury oxide cell. 2, record 2, English, - mercury%20cell

3, record 2, French, - pile%20%C3%A0%20l%27oxyde%20mercurique
