Le larmier est le membre le plus saillant de la corniche. La face du larmier est droite, mais il est creusé en dessous d'une sorte de canal qui règne sur toute sa longueur. C'est ce canal qui a fait donner à la moulure entière le nom sous lequel on la désigne, car il empêche les eaux de pluie amenées par le toit de couler le long du mur de l'édifice. [...] Par analogie, on donne encore le nom de larmier : 1. à toute saillie qui est hors de l'aplomb d'une muraille, et qui a pour objet d'empêcher que l'eau ne découle le long du mur; 2. à la pièce de bois qu'on met en saillie au bas d'un châssis de croisée ou de porte, pour empêcher l'eau de pénétrer à l'intérieur. 3, record 1, French, - larmier
