Arrangement used mainly in pleasure crafts where an inboard engine drives an outboard steerable propeller unit.

OBS

The propeller unit also acts as an active rudder. The word sterndrive has replaced the term inboard-outboard for this type of arrangement. Vessels so equipped are known as sterndrives.
