Transport Canada. Urban, Intermodalism and Motor Carrier Policy Branch. In Canada, jurisdiction over motor carriers (truck and bus operators) is shared between the federal government and the provinces. However, the federal role is largely one of coordination and facilitation. Federal legislation, the Motor Vehicle Transport Act (MVTA) allows provinces to apply their own rules and regulations to motor carriers in federal jurisdiction, subject to the conditions set in the Act. Motor Carrier Policy is one of two groups within Transport Canada that is directly concerned with matters relating to the MVTA, the other being the Road Safety Group.

Au Canada, le gouvernement fédéral et les provinces se partagent la compétence du transport routier (exploitants de camions et d'autobus). Cependant, le gouvernement fédéral joue majoritairement un rôle de coordination et de facilitation. Une loi fédérale, la Loi sur les transports routiers (LTR), autorise les provinces à appliquer leurs propres règles et règlements aux transporteurs routiers relevant de la compétence fédérale, sous réserve des conditions énoncées dans la Loi. Le groupe Politique des transports routiers est l'un des deux groupes qui s'occupe directement des questions relatives à la LTR; l'autre est le groupe Sécurité routière.
