The energy released from an atom in the form of neutral particles called neutrons.

OBS

Neutrons are part of the basic building blocks of atoms. They have no charge and are about the same mass as a proton. Due to ion-producing collisions with matter and absorption/decay processes, neutrons are a type of ionizing radiation.

penetrating atomic particles that result from collisions between cosmic rays and atoms in the atmosphere, and from some specialized man-made sources. This type of radiation is often used in portable nuclear gauges.

CONT

Neutron radiation is produced by the fission process in nuclear reactors. It is the form of radiation which can cause other materials to become radioactive. This property is used to create radioisotopes for medicine and industry. Water and concrete are used as a shield against neutron radiation from the reactor core.

Les neutrons peuvent aussi être très pénétrants. Ils sont produits par la fission dans les réacteurs nucléaires. Comme ils peuvent rendre d'autres matières radioactives, on les utilise pour préparer des radio-isotopes destinés à des applications médicales et industrielles. L'eau et le béton peuvent servir de bouclier efficace contre les neutrons qui proviennent du noyau des réacteurs.
