OCRinet, a high-capacity test network, is the world's first metropolitan area research network driven by advanced switching technologies. It serves as a laboratory for developing and demonstrating equipment, techniques and services. Begun in 1994 and coordinated through the Ottawa-Carleton Research Institute, the test-bed network links 12 nodes through fibre optic cable.
