L'onde Lg, apparemment une onde différente des ondes de «love» appelées fréquemment ondes L, serait une onde guidée résultant d'ondes volumiques de cisaillement S, elles-mêmes issues de conversions d'ondes volumiques de compression P sur des interfaces crustales au niveau de la source.

Quand on ne parle que de «Lg wave» dans le texte anglais, on utilisera l'équivalent «onde Lg». Cependant, s'il y avait un parallèle entre les ondes S et les ondes P, on préférera le deuxième équivalent (onde S).
