The operational role assigned the Naval Reserve is noteworthy. Under the "Total Force" concept, the twelve Kingston Class ships are operated primarily by Reservists. The numerous operational roles assigned these ships, most notably coastal defence/mine-countermeasures, are not performed by Regular Force units.
