When a chlorine atom (C1) collides with an ozone molecule, the chlorine steals the ozone's third oxygen atom, forming a chlorine monoxide radical (C1O) and an oxygen molecule. Radicals, which are molecules that have an odd number of electrons, are quite reactive.
