Les indications de la pleurodèse sont dominées par les pneumothorax récidivants ou chroniques et les pleurésies néoplasiques. Cependant certaines pleurésies mécaniques et des chylothorax secondaires échappent à un traitement étiologique efficace et évoluent vers des récidives fréquentes ou la chronicité nécessitant aussi le recours à une symphyse pleurale thérapeutique.
