The climate of Alaska and northwestern Canada can be influenced by different climate indices, which vary on a yearly basis. The main climate indicators of the region are El Niño, the Arctic oscillation (AO), the Pacific North American pattern (PNA) and the Pacific decadal oscillation (PDO).

Les acides nucléiques peptidiques (ANP) sont des homologues synthétiques des acides nucléiques, au niveau de leur composition. Cependant, les grandes différences entre ces deux derniers demeurent dans les propriétés physico-chimiques de ces molécules. La colonne dorsale des ANP n’est pas composée d’une queue de liaisons phosphodiesters, comme c’est le cas pour les acides nucléiques naturels. À la place, ils sont caractérisés par une queue protéique de liaisons peptidiques. En conséquence, la queue est d’une charge nette neutre et est dépourvue de carbones chiraux. Comme la queue polypeptidique d’un ANP n’est pas chargée de façon électronégative, il n’y a pas de répulsion électrostatique entre les deux brins d’un duplex. Il a été démontré que ces molécules d’ANP ont des chaînes très flexibles avec la possibilité de rotation et de changements de conformation, puisqu'ils n'ont pas de carbones chiraux.

The maximum ability of a substance to accept free protons, thus contributing to a decrease in the concentration of free protons in solution or to the stability of a chemical system upon the addition of acid.

CONT

The acid neutralizing capacity (ANC) is the sum of all the bases that can be titrated with a strong acid to a predefined equivalence point. The acid neutralizing capacity pertains to any substance capable of interacting with the hydrogen ion. These substances include the dissolved carbonates and hydroxide ion which comprise alkalinity, plus any other protolyte, adsorptive surface, or adsorptive substance (i.e. biological organisms).
