Engineers from G.W. Plastics Inc., Gethel, Vt., and Lexmark International, Lexington, Ky., Carilon aliphatic polyketone for gears in laser-printer tone cartridges.

Several original polymer families are to be launched at NPE. Perhaps the most impelling is aliphatic polyketone from Shell Chemical Co. [Stand S1323]. The products (tradename Carilon) are said to mold well, exhibiting superior mechanical and temperature-resistance performances and excellent part surface properties. They require no pre-drying. Material is viable in injection, blow and rotomolding, and pipe, sheet, and profile extrusion.

La famille des thermoplastiques techniques vient de s'agrandir. [...] La polycétone aliphatique [...] aurait hérité grosso modo, du caractère de deux de ses proches parents : le polyamide (PA) et le polyacétal (POM). Par sa tenue en température, la nouvelle résine tiendrait plutôt du polyamide. Tandis que sa bonne tenue à l'eau et sa «clipsabilité», c'est-à-dire à la fois sa résistance mécanique et son élasticité, lui prêteraient davantage les traits du polyacétal. [...] La polycétone aliphatique est un polymère à chaîne linéaire, dans laquelle alternent très régulièrement des molécules de monoxyde de carbone et d'éthylène. [...] Premiers secteurs d'application visés : l'automobile, l'électrotechnique et l'électroménager.
