R-6/SVP-HCl, Lurgi and Chemetics processes. The chlorine dioxide is produced by reaction of the chlorate with hydrochloric acid, which is in turn produced on site from hydrogen produced in the on-site chlorate plant and merchant chlorine. The chlorine dioxide is stripped from the vacuum-operated generator crystallizer with steam in the R6/SVP-HCl process. Air is used to strip and dilute the chlorine dioxide from the reactors in the Lurgi and Chemetics systems.
