Pour la production d'alcool à partir de la cellulose (...) [,les] procédés qui ont fait actuellement l'objet de réalisations industrielles sont ceux de Meunier, Scholler et Bergius. Les deux premiers réalisent une hydrolyse par une solution d'acide sulfurique diluée à chaud (175°C) sous 8 atmosphères. Dans le procédé Meunier, on réalise une série d'opérations successives, avec élimination des sucres du mélange réactionnel après chaque opération d'hydrolyse, afin d'éviter la destruction des sucres fermentescibles par une action trop prolongée de l'acide.
