Dans un premier temps, on fait croître une souche de silice [...] sur une plaquette standard, puis on soumet sa face supérieure à un bombardement par des ions légers, hydrogène ou hélium. Ce bombardement engendre une zone endommagée située à environ 250 nanomètres de profondeur. La plaquette est ensuite nettoyée, retournée et disposée sur une plaquette de silicium vierge. Chauffés à l l00 °C, les deux éléments se collent par formation de liaisons chimiques Si-O-Si, et la partie supérieure est détachée : subsiste alors, après polissage, un film de silicium isolé du substrat par de la silice. La plaquette de silicium détachée est réutilisable. Ce nouveau procédé breveté, dénommé Smart-Cut Unibond, n'utilise que des instruments standards, et la surface obtenue est meilleure que les surface produites précédemment avec le procédé SIMOX [...]
