There was also a public bill introduced in the mid-30s dealing with a series of particular oil and gas leases that had been entered into by Prudential Trust on behalf of an oil company. That act has always been considered as a public act, but it varied the terms of those particular leases affecting only the lessees and the lessors of those leases[. That public bill] was introduced after pressure had been brought on the government, but not by way of petition.

Le PTP [Partenariat transpacifique] élargit également les motifs de contestation en vertu du RDIE [mécanisme de règlement des différends entre investisseurs et États], allant au-delà de l'application à l'égard des lois d'intérêt public. Si le Canada a un contrat avec une multinationale d'un pays étranger, un différend concernant le libellé du contrat est normalement réglé en fonction des modalités du contrat. Le PTP permettra dorénavant aux multinationales de faire des réclamations au titre du RDIE, accroissant grandement les risques pour les contribuables canadiens.
