The product of both pressure and volume of a certain amount of a gas at a prevailing temperature. If the pV-number is to be a measure for the amount of matter or quantity of gas, the temperature must be given.

OBS

Pour une quantité donnée d'un gaz à température constante, le volume occupé par ce gaz est inversement proportionnel à sa pression. Si c'est le cas alors le produit PV= constante. On peut donc écrire PV=P'V'. Si on connaît la pression et le volume occupé par un gaz l'on peut calculer la pression ou le volume si l'autre paramètre est changé.
