This program, launched in early 1995, will strengthen the electronic networking infrastructure in less advanced countries. It will expand Internet access to remote areas in the region and will improve the flow of scientific and technical information. Links with Canadian research and development institutions are a priority. Sponsors include Sun Microsystems, the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations Environment Programme, the International Development Research Centre and several of Asia's leading research and documentation centres.

Ce programme lancé au début de 1995 consolidera l'infrastructure de réseaux électroniques dans les pays peu évolués. Il élargira l'accès à l'Internet aux régions éloignées du continent en améliorant la circulation de l'information scientifique et technique. Les liaisons avec les institutions canadiennes de R-D [recherche et développement] sont une priorité. Parmi les promoteurs, on compte Sun Microsystems, la Banque asiatique de développement, le Programme des Nations Unies pour l'environnement et plusieurs grands centres de recherche et de documentation dont le Centre de recherches en développement international (CRDI).
