A method of drying tobacco leaf using heat that comes from flues, or pipes.

Flue-curing is done in almost air-tight barns or kilns with adjustable top and bottom ventilation or forced-draft systems. Air in the barn is heated either indirectly by floor-level flues from a furnace or directly by space heaters.

El tabaco de Virginia [...] hoy en día es el tipo de tabaco más extendido y cultivado. Para su secado el método más empleado es el curado por aire caliente (flue curing) que da a la hoja un color dorado brillante.

Cuando las hojas se recolectan, tienen un alto contenido de humedad y no son adecuadas para fumarlas, por lo que la operación inmediata es el curado. El curado consiste en secar la hoja, a fin de que se conserve y sea adecuada para su manufactura ulterior, dando lugar a una serie de cambios químicos en la hoja de tabaco. El tabaco de Virginia, que es el tipo de tabaco que tiene más aceptación para cigarrillos y ciertos tabacos de pipa, se cura por el método de chimeneas o tubos, que conducen los gases calientes de la combustión.

Heated air grain drying. Whenever aeration or natural air drying fails to adequately condition grain for storage, a heated air dryer may be incorporated into the harvesting storage system. Compared to natural air drying, the heated air drying absorbs more moisture from the grain thus drying the grain faster.

air impingement: A method of heat transfer in the paper industry using impinging air jets to provide high heat transfer rates, such as in the drying of lightweight paper grade of tissue and toweling. The sheet is usually dried on a steam-heated cylinder (yankee dryer) with drying rates augmented by the use of a round or slot-shaped, high-velocity impinging hot air jet.
