CONT

Exterior hoods are suction openings located adjacent to open sources of contamination. This type of hood removes contaminants by creating controlled air currents that capture and draw the contaminants into the duct system. The shape and size of the capture zone (the area into which contaminants are drawn) is determined by the design of the hood and the rate of airflow. Examples of these hoods include side draft hoods, slot hoods, downdraft hoods and exhaust ducts located close to the source.

OBS

A design often employed. This unit is located on the side of the roof (furnace roof), close to the electrodes to procure a lateral type of control. An overhead hood at the charging door is often used with the side hood.
