La notion de corporation a une extension moins vaste que celle de personne morale; en effet, la société en nom collectif et la société en commandite, qui sont reconnues à certaines fins par la jurisprudence comme des personnes morales, ne sont pas des corporations. Cependant, ces deux notions, provenant, la première du droit anglais, la seconde du droit français, font double emploi, dans la mesure où elles servent à regrouper, chacune dans le système d'où elles proviennent, les sujets de droit autres que les personnes physiques.
