Strategies for a 5-1 serve receive are slightly different. In a 5-1 volleyball offense, a team has 1 setter and 5 hitters. The setter sets in every rotation. This is different from a 6-2 offense in that not only does the setter set when playing on the back row, but also across the front row.

Système 5-1. Ce système est caractérisé par l'utilisation d'un seul passeur. L'inconvénient de ce système est la diminution du nombre d'attaquants lorsque le passeur se retrouve sur la ligne avant. Cependant, cette technique est de plus en plus utilisé car elle facilite la synchronisation passeur/attaquants. Il faut donc que le passeur soit très bon, et qu'il soit encadré des meilleurs attaquants pour combler le problème du nombre d'attaquants.
