Les installations à air chaud. [...] le fluide utilisé pour le transport de la chaleur est l'air. Cet air est distribué dans les locaux desservis [soit directement, soit indirectement] dont il réchauffe l'atmosphère par mélange. L'air peut être pulsé ou non; il peut aussi recevoir un traitement particulier (humidification, séchage, ozonisation). Il est traité dans des appareils spéciaux (échangeurs), dans lesquels il augmente sa température au contact de surfaces de chauffe qui sont soit alimentées par un fluide auxiliaire (eau, vapeur ou électricité) s'il s'agit d'aérothermes, soit léchées directement sur la face opposée par les gaz de combustion provenant d'un foyer propre à l'appareil dans le cas des générateurs.
